His activities in issues related to open access developed out of his interest in open source software while he was a student at Swarthmore College. Nelson will present an overview of the various issues related to a culture of sharing.

He interned last year at SPARC, helping develop their student outreach campaign. He was a board member of Students for Free Culture and co-founder of the University of Florida chapter, Florida Free Culture. Gavin will facilitate the closing session to bring together the ideas from the breakout sessions and work toward next steps to foster a culture of sharing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
